Description
I was invited to teach for a Crafty Adventures cruise in November 2025 – teaching a new Stumpwork/Goldwork project to be designed especially for the cruise participants. I wanted the design to be a memory of their cruise and classes – a souvenir! Inspired by my memories of 1980’s tea-towels and postcards, I decided to create this piece. Aotearoa is the traditional name for New Zealand and the piece features nine icons of New Zealand – Kowhai, Paua Shell and Maori fish hook shape, Silver Fern, Auckland Sky Tower, Pohutukawa, Fantail, a Hobbit hole and Kiwi. Click on the image above to see it in detail.
The piece is worked in a range of silk and English gilt metal threads, along with a number of specialty threads and beads. The paua shell letter A has been laser cut for you and the design has been screen printed onto the silk dupion background fabric. The design measures 26cm x 8cm.
