Egyptian Bee

$110.00

Description

My new bee is inspired by our trip to Egypt in September/October 2022.  Variations of this bee are everywhere!  Painted in tombs, carved in and on temples, it represents the Pharoah.  I have combined the bee shape with some of the amazing patterns that we saw decorating everything from walls to pillars, jewellery to coffins – and of course the brilliant colours of aqua, turquoise, orange and gold.  While I would have loved to stitch him on Egyptian Cotton, he is embroidered on Thai Silk.

The bee is worked in both English gilt purl threads, coloured couching threads and Indian coloured sadi threads, a little Au Ver a Soie silk, as well as lapis and carnelian beads (I just had to use those!)  The design is 10cm x 9cm
