Floral Tribute was inspired by Dutch Masters floral paintings – which I love! It was designed specially for a retreat at The Hague, Netherlands, for Creative Experiences in March/April 2026.
This is a design for those that like to get their teeth into a project that will take a little while to complete. Embroidered in traditional and creative metal thread techniques, it is worked in English gilt metal threads and Japanese couching threads on a cotton background. The piece has quite a lot of laid purl work in it, along with work on organza and metal mesh. This design uses a range of techniques to create the three dimensional effect and has a fully detached ‘floating’ petal to create the effect that it has just dropped off the poppy bloom.
