Merletti a Punto Antico – 329 Deisegni per Aemilia Ars, Reticello e Ricamo. This gorgeous book has designs reproduced from two old pattern books that had belonged to Bianca Rosa Bellomo’s aunts. Mostly white on a blue background – the blueprints for making all sorts of shapes and edgings, fans etc are direct copies from the old books which had no publication information printed in them. In the back are black designs on white that are closer to what we usually see in these sorts of embroidery books. The text is Italian – and really there is not much text – a few pages at the beginning talking about how this book came about and some further information scattered among the patterns. It is a treasure trove of designs for those interested in Italian lace embroidery techniques. This is not a book for beginners – there are no instructions for working the designs – you must already know the stitches to be able to interpret the designs.
