Description
In 2023 I purchased a parcel of bits and pieces of Stuart metal at auction – bits of buckles and pins – primarily because there was a piece with a letter A prominently in the middle. When the parcel arrived, there was a little piece of metal with the sweetest little bird – reminiscent of William Morris’ Strawberry Thief design (which I love). I immediately fell in love with it and decided to embroider it for myself and frame the two together. I have since decided to release the little bird as a kit.
The piece is worked on berry delustered satin in Au Ver a Soie silk and English gilt metal threads with accents in garnets, Indian sadi and glass beads. This little piece only measures 8cm square and features a lot of laid work, along with brick stitch, felt and cotton padding, detached elements and and assortment of other techniques.
