Stumpwork Embroidery is a stunning three dimensional embroidery that has it’s roots in the elaborate ecclesiastic embroideries of the 16th Century.  Historically, Stumpwork embroidery was known as Raised and Embossed Embroidery and was a popular form of domestic embroidery in England in the mid to late 17th Century.

Today, Stumpwork is still Raised and Embossed – it is a stunning form of three dimensional embroidery that uses padding and wires to raise the embroidery from the surface.
